Countdown: 3-2-1!!! – Page 32

It’s not hard to tell the seniors from the underclassmen during the final days of school. The seniors are the ones continually counting the days, hours, and minutes left in their high school careers, and at the same time, trying to savor every remaining second. It was not unusual for the seniors to celebrate their departure with small pranks.

One of these class pranks included the kidnapping of the caps from the hallway bells. The ransom note for their return demanded $50,000 or a proclamation of the Class of ’78 as the coolest ever. The administration chose the latter and posted the announcement on the sign in front of the school.

In the last week of school, seniors held a special "banquet" during the second lunch period and dined on take-out orders from a local steakhouse.

The celebration began on May 24 as the seniors finished up their final exams and rushed into the hallways to let everyone know they were finished. As the school day came to an end, The Class of ’78 left Northside High School in a blaze of glory.
