Movies were one way students found to escape from school work. While Woody Allen’s "Annie Hall" took the award for best picture of the year, most students preferred the comedy-love story, "The Good-bye Girl." The epic "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" featured Muncie as its fictional setting. "Star Wars" was another science-fiction favorite. Honor Society brought the silver screen to Northside, as they sponsored a film festival including the popular "Silver Streak."
Tastes in music varied from hard rock to disco. The biggest album of 1977 was the Eagles’ "Hotel California." The soundtrack from "Saturday Night Fever" mad disco the year’s most popular sound. Rock ‘N Roll lost its king in August of 1977 when the legendary Elvis Presley died.
While homework and school activities didn’t leave much time for TV viewing, many students found time to enjoy "Saturday Night Live." Other popular series include "Fantasy Island," "Happy Days," and "The Love Boat."
