Work on the musical began in September when Mrs. Nancy Crouse, director of the play, held auditions. Senior Debbie Moss was chosen for the lead part of Maria, the young non who brings music into the lives of the Von Trapp family members. Captain Von Trapp was portrayed by senior Stan Buck. The Von Trapp children included four Northside students – Rena Moon, Steve Conn, Amy Barber, and Mark Jennings. Rebecca Conn became a member of the cast because of an older brother and sister at North. Melissa Miller and Julie Hoopingarner are the daughters of two Northside faculty members. Other students with major roles included David Minkwitz, Jill Snyder, Lisa Greenwood, and Mike Waters.

Elaborate set designs and slides of Austrian scenery projected on the auditorium walls added a touch of reality to the production. The orchestra provided the musical background.

The musical was presented on two evenings and at a convocation.
